NYC based rockers Wool Sucker deliver a distinctive blend of elements from alternative rock, experimental grunge and classic Americana all bundled into strange anecdotes pulled from Russian fairy tales and bedtime stories resulting in a truly unique and refreshingly exciting listening experience.
Songwriters Alex Minier (bass, lead vox) and Elizagrace Madrone teamed up with producer Keven Salem (Rachael Yamagata, Yo La Tengo) for their debut album Plastic Wings, coming in January 2018. For this record, Jeff McLaughlin (guitar), Cody Rahn (drums) and Andrew Miramonti (keyboards) joined forces with Alex and Elizagrace to create layered, unpredictable but pleasing sonic arrangements.
Rusalka (Drown With Me) kicks off with a minimal progression and sullen, somber lead vocals. The track quickly transitions into an eerie, chiming melody, hard hitting drums (really dig how the kick and snare sit in the mix), and plenty of layers and texture to keep things intriguing and our attention grabbed.
As the music fades around the two minute mark, the lead vocals and distant, dissonant sounds build back into a sonic assault that digs deep into our emotions, stirs them around for a while and leaves us longing for more as the song fades to silence.
Rusalka is now available on Spotify.
