Mid Tenn Listens ep 42 – Rickety Shack
Middle Tennessee Music’s C Bret Campbell sits down with Logan and Jakob Bailey of Rickety Shack, a Wartrace, TN based band. They draw on influences such as Hank Williams, Sr. and Modest Mouse to create a real, down-home, old-timey-exuberant-youth flavored “altern-icana” style of music.
The veterans of “I Am What I am Festival” to support autism awareness in 2012 (Shelbyville, TN) are scheduled to play again, this year. We talk about that and their plans for “Music Tree Fest” in Manchester, TN on Monday 10 June at Just One More (formerly world famous “VI’s Longe”).
We also get into the group’s history, of course, and the behind the scenes look at the writing of Jakob’s “Downtrodden Skillet Dash.”
Rickety Shack plan to tour the east coast from sunny Fla up to chillin Buffalo, NY this summer. My advice is catch them if you can.
Rickety Shack is a collaboration of three musicians (and family members). Two brothers, Jakob Bailey (Guitar, piano, song writer, hi-hat, and vocals) and Logan Bailey (Banjo, guitar, song writer, and vocals), and their uncle Ezra Cataldo (Upright bass, bass guitar, percussion, song writing, harmonica, and vocals.) They are youthful, energetic, sometimes loud, and play traditional instruments in an alternative fashion. Rickety Shack is influenced by a wide range of music spanning from The Holy Modal Rounders to Modest Mouse. This variety of music gives Rickety Shack a unique sound they like to call Alternacana…”
