MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.
Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.
Janissa – Its really a folky/soulful/country blend of eclectic-ness.
Drew – I’m from the Mule Capital of the world. Columbia, TN. I’m not really into “labeling” things.
What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?
Janissa – I’ve been on a marathon of my Golden Girls dvd collection. I also enjoy watching the Lifetime network but the
movies just ain’t as real as they used to be!
Drew – Trying to follow up and see if anything has been solved with all those stories on that Unsolved Mysteries tv show.
What was the last song you listened to?
Drew – How Blue Can You Get by B.B. King off the the Live at the Regal album
Janissa – Some Indie rock band song on Lightning 100. I don’t remember the name really or even how the lyrics go. I do remember it sounding like someone banging pots and tubs with some kind of electronic synth music in the back ground.
What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?
Janissa – I listened to everything from early 90’s R&B to country to pop to folk to hairbands growing up. I really just loved music. Now, my friends say I’m a bit of a music snob. I prefer to listen to more genuine artists– folks who are writing their own songs and coming up with their own melodies. Honestly, currently, I still listen to a little bit of everything but my favorites are in the singer/songwriter/folk genres.
Drew – I remember being a youngin and my sisters playing Def Leppard and AC/DC. I also did a spot on Michael Jackson impersonation when I was a kid. Moon walk, grab the crotch, hat and glove whole bit. In high school was really into Dave Matthews and Phish. Now it’s pretty much whatever snippets of music are played on NPR.
Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?
Janissa – um…. about a month ago. 🙂 No- I think I’ve always known that I was born a musician… I finally accepted it wasn’t a calling that I could escape… in the past year or so.
Drew – I’ve had a bunch of “ah-ha” moments. And they keep happening which keeps me going. I live for those moments. One of my earlier ones was when I learned my first song through guitar tabliture in a Guitar World magazine. I sat down and figured out how to play the acoustic version of Layla by Eric Clapton. I was probably 13 or 14 years old.
How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?
How else? Janissa – Craigslist…. YES, we LOVE Craigslist!!
Drew – Janissa
How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?
Janissa – It’s great to be involved and have a chance to meet more people in the music community
Drew – I’m just happy to be here. Janissa told me there was free food?
If there is free food, you heard about it before me. Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?
Janissa – I have a distant relative playing this year. Not many people have heard of him though. His name is Paul. I going to try to make some time to see his set.
Drew – Same plans I have every year. Sleep in my own comfy bed, take a nice warm shower, drink plenty of free water, and catch the highlights on the news.
Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?
Not yet- we are new together- but will be starting a kickstarter in the coming weeks. We are writing actively and hope to get an album out ASAP. www.reverbnation.com/youandme1
Any last thoughts? Shout outs?
Janissa – Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways?
Drew – Shout out to the music community of Memphis, TN, that really nice girl who bought me a beer for giving her my seat, Hulk Hogan, my uncle Dale, and Ricky Skaggs.
