You can find our feature article about The Beat Is Calling Me here (opens in new tab).
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am originally from Detroit Michigan. I now reside in Dallas Texas. I create R&B and EDM. I grew up on R&B and house music, so I’m familiar with both styles of music. I enjoy them both.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I wanted to be an entertainer from childhood. Music makes me happy, so I’m motivated in the creative process of making music.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This release is different in that the music is dance oriented. On Taste For Love, the vibe is R&B. You still get the R&B vibe from the vocals on The Beat is Calling Me, but production wise it’s dance. I just want to make music that I enjoy and hopefully others will feel the same.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
Trying to be heard is a challenge because of oversaturation. Money is a challenge because you must pay for everything yourself. Social media is a great tool as it helps to reach the masses.
What was the last song you listened to?
‘Gethsemane’ on the Jesus Christ Superstar album.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s? I prefer MP3s.
I love to plug in and connect Bluetooth. I also like MP3s because it’s easier to manage than having a lot of CDs or Vinyl.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I really like Apple Music. I enjoy the playlist selections. Not that the others don’t have playlists, which I know they do, but Apple Music is what I’m accustomed to.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
You can find me at claytonmorganmusic on Facebook , Instagram and Twitter and claytonmorgan.com, my music can be found on all major platforms where music is streamed or downloaded.
Anything else before we sign off?
I am trying out some acting opportunities. I recently was given an understudy role in Jesus Christ Superstar at a local community theatre. I’m excited about all the possibilities coming my way.
