Interview about Breeze’s social media marketing strategy
JS: Tell us about Encore.
Breeze: Ultimately, I feel like Encore is a sensual song with a raw overtone. I wanted to deliver listeners with something they haven’t heard before. I have had small success by performing erotic poetry and I realize that there are plenty of people who want raw, uncut lyrics…especially for the sexually explicit songs.
I actually pitched this to several people and they all told me that it was too vulgar. I disagreed and decided that it was just edgy enough to be my second single. I don’t think radio is relevant in breaking artists today, so edited music is a thing of the past.
I only promote thru social media and blogs, so my listeners are a specific demographic. I try to cater to adults and I feel like songs such as Encore, solidify my spot in my desired demographic.
My first week of using Facebook’s “likes” system, I garnished more support than I have through my entire music career.
JS: How did you use Facebook Likes system to promote the release of Encore and how well did it work? Did you gain followers in the process?
Breeze: Facebook is the largest, most widely accepted form of social media at the present time. I felt the “likes” idea would create more notoriety for the song.
The more “likes” I have, the more likely a new listener would give my music a chance.
I also use it to track the success of each song [ReverbNation’s Analytics]. I can see who listened to it, who shared it, and who downloaded it.
JS: How long did it take to achieve your goal?
Breeze: My first week of using Facebook’s “likes” system, I garnished more support than I have through my entire music career. Each week is a higher success rate.
Finally, friends and family can come together and use this system to show support for new artists like myself.
