MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.
Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.
We are Fate of Adam. Lynn Garrett (lead vocals, guitar), Patrick swift (lead guitarist, vocals), wane “tango” Howard ( bass, backing vocals), Victor Lewis (guitar), TJ Ownes (drums). We all originate from Cookeville/Smithville area.
What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?
We are all a little different, but in a whole….. Movies, beer pong, night life, volley ball, hanging with our kids. It’s hard for us to do anything outside of music, it’s kinda who we are.
What was the last song you listened to?
Lynn- hey you ( pink Floyd )
Tango- Suck my kiss – Red Hot Chili Peppers via Pandora
Patrick- (Learning to Fly- Tom Petty)
Tj- Last song I listened to was “Turn Out The Lights-Steel Panther!
What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?
Lynn- I listen to a lot of country and gospel music because of my family and the family band. I cut my teeth on Johnny cash, and the gaithers. Then I heard “slippery when wet” with my older brother. Changed my life. But the true change came when I borrowed ” master of puppets” from a friend. That made me pick up a guitar and ink pen. Now I stay within those bounds of hard rock and metal. As long as a band keeps it tasteful I back them 100%.
Tango- Well we need to clarify a few things… when I was a kid all I listened to was kids tapes (mary had a little lamb…ect), beach boys, and some Elvis Presley. Now I listen to mostly rock (Alice in Chains, Tool, In this Moment) and I have a few audio guilty pleasures and this is not the time or place to delv into. lol
Patrick – I listened to a lot of country and rock growing up, with the over-played gospel running thru my house at all times. I listened to tons of GnR, and Metallica, Garth Brooks, and plenty others. I still listen to a lot of rock, but I am more into heavier stuff, Slipknot, and more intricate music like Steve Vai, and Dream Theater. I would say my tastes have kind of stayed the same, but just got a bit heavier.
Tj- Well I have always been somewhat of an eclectic person as far as music goes mostly concerning genres. As a “young’n” I was always around country, southern rock, rap, and ’90s metal. Teen years I got into heavy music alot of metalcore and stuff like that and I have basically combined all of that into what I listen to nowadays.
Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?
Lynn- I was born into music. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. It is my addiction.
Tango- The first time I was part of a jam session that actually felt good. When the awkwardness was all gone and everything just all synced together. It felt like the music was flowing through me and in some ways touched my soul. There was an instant high that I have been chasing ever since. I guess Im just a music junkie.
Patrick- My grandmother bought my brother Eric an acoustic that he could leave at her house, and since I grew up in that house, I would start playing it instead of video games. I remember I was listening to Queen’s “We Are The Champions” and I asked my brother, “If I just could bust out this solo right now, how impressed would you be?” He said “I’d stop playing guitar if you did that right now…”, and something about the power behind that just drove me to play harder. I never learned it thought, just in case he was a man of his word.
Tj- Well I know there was that moment I knew music is what I wanted to do but I dont really have a “date” it was of a time period in my life that I realized it. There were those few years where most kids would want to be out with friends all the time and during that time in my life all I wanted to do was be in my basement beatin the hell outta my drums.

Tango- Shout out to tacos… stay tasty my beef filled brothers.
Patrick- Shout out to all the people who said I’d never amount to anything. How do you like me now!?
Tj- Shout out to all the people who have supported me in my music! also shout out to all the ones who said I’d be “just another musician.” I for one am proud to say I am “just another musician.” If you ask me it takes a tough, strong willed, hard headed person to be a musician and I am happy to be apart of that family.
