MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.
Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.
I am Celia Gary and I currently reside in North Augusta, South Carolina. I play acoustic indie/singer-songwriter music. I put my heart and soul into the songs I write and enjoy sharing my experiences with anyone who is willing to listen.
What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?
Music always keeps me interiged and busy but I enjoy nature very much too. I love to go on a hike or a bike ride on a nice day. I also enjoy photography and taking photos. Documenting life or neat things I experience is something I like because I can also share my experiences with others through photography. I really enjoy experiencing new things so I am always up for an adventure.
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was There’s A Place by The Beatles. They happen to be my favorite band.
What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?
When I was younger I listened to a lot of music that my parents listened to such as The Beatles but, I also enjoyed listening to Green Day & The Strokes. I had my phase of listening to up and coming music but then I quickly got very interested in the underground music scene. Now I mainly enjoy listening to oldies and indie/underground music. I love adding music to my collection and I actively search for new artists to listen to and be inspired by. Some of my favorites are The Beatles, Catpower, A.A. Bondy, Andrew Bird, Spoon, Beck, The Mamas and The Papas, Simon and Garfunkal, and many more. I think my music taste has been more enhanced since I was younger just because I have had time to explore new musicians and new sounds. There is defiantly something for everyone out there.
Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?
Well it actually wasn’t too long ago when I really decided that music was the path I wanted to take. A series of events occured in which I finally got the courage to perform live. Once I began to do this I really feel in love with sharing my music on stage. It all happened about a year ago. I was a senior in college at the University of South Carolina Aiken which a Psychology Major. Doing music and school was doable but the moment where I took “the step” was when I declinded to participate in an research independant study at the university. For a psychology major, this is crucial for getting into a psychology masters program. When I declined I was making the first big step into my future as a musician. I knew my love for music was much stronger than my love for becoming a psychologist and with that, I made my choice.
How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?
I heard about the Music Tree Fest through a local band actually. Cameras Guns and Radios are a great local band from Augusta who have been very supportive of my music. They told me about the festival and suggested that I try and be a part of it. They will also be performing again this year at the festival so be sure to check them out.
How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?
I am really excited to be a part of this festival. It is the first major festival I have been a part of out-of-town. I am very excited about sharing my music with a different crowd in a new and exciting place. I enjoy performing very much so I hope people respond to my sound.
Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?
Bonnaroo is so amazing but sadly I didn’t have to funds to purchase a ticket.
Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?
I am proud to say that I released an EP entitled Harmony in November of 2012. It is my first official CD of any sorts. It is available online in many places such as iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp, my Official Website, and available for streaming on Spotify and Soundcloud.
My website is www.celiasmusic.com which has everything from bios, to upcoming gigs, to music. My facebook is www.facebook.com/celiasmusic which is a great way to keep up with my latest projects and gigs. My youtube is a great way to keep up with live recordings and performances which include a wider variety of songs than just my EP. I have almost every type of social media site though like twitter, reverbnation, fandalism, etc. Either type in celiasmusic or Celia Gary and something is bound to show up!
Any last thoughts? Shout outs?
I just wanted to give a shout out to all of my friends, fans, and supporters! This year of music has been really incredible but I honestly couldn’t have done it with out many of you. Although there have been up’s and down’s, you have been there so Thank You.
