I got to check out The Boston Boys the other day – I would say they are a mashup of Avett Brothers meets Old Crow Medicine show. Yessir, the new indy folk sound is here to stay.
From their self-released EP “Idea of Love,” a couple songs really struck my fancy.
“Times Like these” sounds like a story about a boxer who is struggling. He is trying to come back from defeat. The music enhances this folky, easy listening tune with their sweet and subtle tones.
I have really taken to this tune over the last few days. It has some Paul Simon like moods. The back beat is steady and the sound is not overdriven in anyway.
The acoustic melancholy melody really drive this song into a positive direction.
And the story goes…..
On “Become Like One”, The Boston Boys are calling out to apparitions in the beginning. The drums and backbeat are solid – a blissful, magical beat. The song is tangled in a bit of psychadelic jazz fusion. The vocals awaken your soul. This is a fun tune to blast with the windows down and cruise around town. Toward the end of the song, the vocals and everything changes into a modern rock ballad.
The whole record has interesting effect all around and it’s great collaboration of all the musicians involved in this project.
“Become Like One,” written by The Boston Boys, is the fourth track off of the forthcoming EP, Idea of Love. Idea of Love will be released on May 20th, 2014.

“Cast by a shadow on a wall near the window, there you are
lost at the days end, I crash like a wave and, there you are
The voice of an angel, constantly faithful, calls and calls
Living mostly alone now, learning how to be on our own
How to be on our own, all alone
Learning how to be on our own
Become like one..”
