WUNMI delivers a new dance tune that just won’t quit! This from the same woman who turned our heads with her signature style as the iconic dancing girl of Soul II Soul , and then reopened the ears of international house heads to the sounds of Fela Kuti with her now classic covers (MAW Expensive made in collaboration with latin duo Masters At Work and Zombie w/Bugz in the Attic).
FIT BODY(PUSH) is the first single off of Wunmi’s long awaited sophmore album, titled SEE ME, and due out early 2015. With her unflinching lyrical style and commitment to cutting edge musical orchestrations born to make you rise up, this extraordinary artist of Nigerian descent is the rightful female heir to the throne of Afro-Beat.
Wunmi has worked closely with Roy Ayers, and has been a darling of international house music for years, producing classic hits such as Rader Du with Yoruba soul master Osunlade.
FIT BODY (PUSH) EP is available on BANDCAMP for multi-format download, complete with artwork and the short GIF animation FIT BODY ‘WERK’: FIT BODY (PUSH) EP /download. The EP includes a JuJu remix by percussionist Richard Olatunde Baker, as well as a classic
House rendition by Dj Uovo from Pasta Boys. There is also the Jmage album mix, and an extended Afro House Instrumental. Plenty to play with!
As usual, [it] would be hard to categorize a Wunmi release into any one genre, but if you’re down for the “get down” we are sure this tune will speak to you! It is classic Wunmi, as she delivers a weave of intricate lyrics around a super tight Afro-groove. And YES! As the title suggests, this infectious party starter is an homage to our bodies, the release we get from the dance, the joy and youthfulness we tap into when we allow ourselves to MOVE . . . and for all you fitness buffs, this is definitely one to add to your playlist—
